At just 26 years old, Priya Saroj is a rising young figure in Indian politics, representing Uttar Pradesh’s Machhlishahr constituency as its Member of Parliament. A first-time MP, Priya entered politics in 2024 as Samajwadi Party candidate, defeating BJP veteran BP Saroj by over 35,000 votes.
Her victory cemented her status as one of India’s youngest MPs, continuing a political legacy established by her father, Tufani Saroj, a three-time MP and current MLA from Kerakat.

Despite her family’s political background, Priya’s initial career aspirations were far from politics. “Growing up, I never imagined stepping into politics,” Priya shared in an interview to Indian Express. “After graduating in law, I was preparing for judgeship exams during the Covid-19 pandemic. Even when my ticket was announced, I was attending online classes for those exams.”
Educated at the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute in New Delhi, Delhi University, and Amity University, Noida, Priya practiced law in the Supreme Court before her foray into politics. Her legal background and fresh perspective have made her a key player in her constituency and beyond.
Recently, Priya made headlines due to rumours of her engagement to Indian cricketer Rinku Singh, known for his IPL heroics and international cricketing achievements.
However, her father, Tufani Saroj, clarified the situation to India TV Digital, saying, “Priya is in Thiruvananthapuram for some work. The news of her engagement is completely wrong. Yes, talks are on between the families, but no formal decisions have been made.”
Rinku Singh, 27, rose to fame with his stellar performances for Kolkata Knight Riders, particularly during a memorable IPL match where he hit five consecutive sixes. His success has extended to the international stage, where he has become a dependable finisher for the Indian cricket team.
While both Priya and Rinku have remained tight-lipped about the rumours, the speculation highlights the intersection of two young, successful individuals making their mark in their respective fields. For Priya Saroj, politics was an unexpected path, but her early success signals a promising future in public service.
